Terlingua is a historic mining town near the edge of Big Bend National Park, known for its striking desert landscapes, rich history, and clear night skies. Today it serves as a gateway for outdoor adventure, offering a unique blend of rugged scenery and small-town charm.
West Texas Wild Life
This nearly uninhabitable West Texas desert sustains a diverse range of wildlife. Aoudads, mule deer, and javelinas are frequently seen, while rattlesnakes, black bears, and mountain lions move more discreetly through the rugged terrain.

Meet the Owner
Matt Barnett is the founder of Bonetti Explosives and the visionary behind Pôr do Sol Ranch. With extensive experience in the explosives industry and a strong appreciation for the outdoors, Matt first acquired the land as a private range to test products and conduct trainings. The striking landscape, with its rolling hills, hidden caves, and vast skies, soon inspired a broader purpose. What began as a functional site became a place for adventure, personal growth, and meaningful connection. As a devoted husband and father of four, Matt built the ranch to offer others the chance to experience the land’s power and leave with something truly memorable.
Ranch Manager
Kat Silva, born in Brazil and now a dedicated homesteader, serves as the ranch manager at Pôr do Sol Ranch. She brings a unique blend of bold culinary talent, practical expertise, and genuine hospitality to every retreat. From leading hikes and coordinating events to preparing thoughtfully crafted meals, Kat ensures each guest feels welcomed and cared for.
Kelly with K36 Consulting
Kelly Hines is a former U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician and the founder of K36 Consulting. With nearly a decade of experience supporting national leaders and managing critical operations in crisis response, anti-terrorism security, executive protection, and disaster preparedness, Kelly brings exceptional expertise and composure to every retreat.
